6:30 pm - Lewd & Lascivious
Go back in time to the 1950s and 60s when gay life in California was illegal. Even dancing with a member of the same sex meant risking jail, loss of employment, and other humiliations. That is, until the 1965 San Francisco Mardi Gras Costume Ball, when everything changed—with help from unexpected quarters. Using a wealth of archival footage and frank interviews, this documentary reminds us that our current freedoms were hard fought and came at a price.

OUTrageous favorites Angie West and Jackie Nunns (OUTrageous 2011) are back with a portrait of a cabaret artist who was “a gay superstar before there were gay superstars.”

8:30 pm - Heterosexual Jill
In 2008, Michelle Ehlen had us rolling in the aisles with Butch Jamie, and now she’s bringing us the rib-tickling sequel. While working on a mockumentary about “cat actors” (including the infamous Howard the Cat), Jamie again finds herself veering into a relationship with Jill, who’s recently attempted a round of “ex-gay” therapy. A mix of over-the-top comedy, sharp wit, and pathos, this movie rides the edge between laughter and pain, desire and repression—and explores the complicated attachment to one’s sense of self in the face of love.
Director: Michelle Ehlen / USA, 2013, 80 minutes

Pedro Almodóvar’s new comedy is his gayest movie in years. If you are going to be trapped on a plane that seems to be going nowhere, who better to be with than Almodóvar’s crazy crop of characters? A mélange of zany flight attendants, playboy pilots, and melodramatic passengers (including Cecilia Roth as a scheming madam) present a microcosm of modern society, flying high in the sky.
Director: Pedro Almodóvar / Spain, 2013, 90 minutes
